Cipayung Engages Businesses in Tackling Waste Challenges

Business owners in Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta, have been encouraged to take part in efforts to adddress local waste challenges through an outreach and education program.

Through this program, each urban village is expected to process at least 10 tons of organic waste per day

Cipayung Sub-district Head Diman emphasized that active participation from business owners is crucial to managing waste at the source.

City Council Monitors Waste Sorting Implementation

According to him, around 100 stakeholders and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners were invited to collaborate on waste sorting and processing programs, including the construction of jumbo biopore holes for organic waste management.

"We hope business owners and community elements can work together to support waste sorting and waste management programs in Cipayung Sub-district," he said at SMKN 24 Jakarta on Jalan Bambu Hitam, Bambu Apus Urban Village, Cipayung Sub-district, on Wednesday (6/17).

According to Diman, managing organic waste requires more complex handling than inorganic waste.

"The involvement of multiple stakeholders is crucial to achieving sustainable waste reduction," he added.

He said the program received a positive response, with several business owners expressing their willingness to support the construction of jumbo biopore holes by providing facilities and infrastructure.

"The collaboration model involves CSR partners providing facilities and infrastructure, while implementation is carried out by government personnel, including PPSU workers, Environment Agency units, Water Resources personnel, Public Works personnel, and other related parties," he explained.

Diman added that the collaboration had already begun over the past week. Among the locations involved are Al Hamid Islamic Boarding School and the PBSI building complex.

He said waste generation in Cipayung reaches approximately 223 tons per day, with nearly half consisting of organic waste that can potentially be processed into compost.

"Through this program, each urban village is expected to process at least 10 tons of organic waste per day, helping reduce the volume of waste transported to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST)," he noted.

Meanwhile, East Jakarta Environment Sub-agency Head Monang Sinaga stressed that successful waste management cannot be achieved by the government alone and requires support from all segments of society.

He praised Cipayung Sub-district for actively engaging CSR partners to strengthen source-based waste management efforts.

"Our principle is to encourage people to process waste at its source. This includes sorting waste and creating jumbo biopore holes, which can help reduce the volume of organic waste," he said.
